bourbon barrel coffee - how it's made - coffee roaster raleigh nc

Have you ever wondered how bourbon barrel coffee is made? It's a unique and delicious process that starts with high-quality coffee beans and ends with a smooth, full-bodied brew that's bursting with whiskey flavor.

The first step in making bourbon barrel coffee is sourcing the green coffee beans. The best bourbon barrel coffee is made with high-quality, ethically sourced beans that naturally pair well with bourbon barrel aging process (not all raw coffee will make the best bourbon barrel coffee).

They are placed in bourbon barrels to age. The barrels, which have previously been used to age bourbon, infuse the beans with the rich, smooth flavors of the bourbon. This process can take anywhere from a few weeks to a few months, depending on the desired flavor profile. Whenever we do a batch, we typically let them age for about 4 weeks.

After the beans have finished aging, they are removed from the barrels and carefully roasted to bring out their full flavor potential. Roasting bourbon barrel aged coffee is different than roasting a typical green coffee bean due to the change in the moisture content of the bean (green coffee is very absorbent) so the roasting process takes extra time and care to get just right. The result is a unique and delicious coffee that has all the smooth, full-bodied flavors of bourbon, without the alcohol.

Bourbon barrel coffee is a treat that's perfect for coffee lovers and bourbon enthusiasts alike. So why wait? Treat yourself to a cup of this delicious brew and discover the magic of bourbon barrel coffee for yourself.
